A man is recovering after being beaten unconscious by a group of individuals in the parking lot of a Dollar General store in Newark. According to Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda, Sr., the victim had just exited a New Jersey Transit bus at about 12:10 a.m. on July 24. He was walking westbound on Springfield Avenue when a group of people approached him. "The victim tried to run past them, but they grabbed him on his shoulder, causing him to fall to the ground in the parking lot of the Dollar General," Miranda said in a statement. "He was beaten unconscious and robbed of his iPhone, identification, credit card, and Beats headphones." After the suspects fled the area, the victim was taken to University Hospital by a bystander. Police said he suffered multiple injuries including facial fractures and a broken nose. Police are now asking for the public's help identifying the group of suspects, who were captured on a nearby surveillance camera as they ran through the parking lot of a nearby Home Depot. Authorities are asking anyone who might be able to identify the suspects to contact the Newark Police Division's 24-hour Crime Stopper tip line at 1-877-NWK-TIPS. Police said tips are confidential "and may result in a reward."
