Man dies, woman injured after second-story railing collapses in Somerset County
A man died and a woman was seriously injured after a second-story railing collapsed at a Franklin Township home, causing both to fall to the ground, authorities said.
Police responded to the home on Marlowe Court around 9:41 p.m. following reports that two people had fallen over a railing, according to Public Safety Director Lloyd Fredericks.
Emergency medical crews treated both victims. The man was pronounced dead at the scene, Fredericks said. The woman was taken to a local hospital. Authorities did not release further details about her injuries or current condition.
A preliminary investigation determined that the two were standing on a second-story landing when the railing gave way, sending them to the ground below.
Fredericks expressed condolences to the man’s family and wished the woman a full recovery.
“This is a tragic incident, and our deepest sympathies go out to the family and loved ones of the individual who lost their life. We extend our thoughts and wishes for a full recovery to the individual who was seriously injured,” Fredericks said.
The incident remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Franklin Township Police Department at 732-873-5533.
