A Lindenhurst man has been convicted of manslaughter and other related charges for a fatal crash on the Southern State Parkway in North Babylon, according to the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office.
Prosecutors say Felix Pantaleon was speeding up to 121 mph, cutting off other vehicles and recording himself with his cellphone just before the collision on Sept. 22, 2024.
The 24-year-old struck the rear of a Honda driven by Reynaldo Collado, of West Babylon. Both vehicles ended up veering off the roadway and crashed into the nearby woods.
The 49-year-old victim was pronounced dead at the scene. His passenger was seriously hurt, sustaining a fractured vertebrae and pelvis.
Three other occupants sustained multiple injuries requiring hospitalization and treatment.
Pantaleon pleaded guilty to manslaughter, assault and reckless driving on Friday.
He is due back in court on Oct. 23 and is expected to be sentenced to four to 12 years in prison.
