A man was captured on camera quickly emptying a stack of a mail from a residential mailbox in Throgs Neck.
Ring Doorbell Camera caught the theft in action at a residential home near Clarence and Randall avenues.
The postal inspector and the NYPD are partnering to track down the suspected thief.
Investigators say it happened around 9:30 p.m. on October 15.
"It's a violation, it's my private property, it's my home," said Ruby, a victim of mail theft.
Residents have reported important and secure documents missing in a growing trend of mail theft.
"The Postal Inspection Service takes matters involving mail theft and the well-being of postal service employees as their top priorities. We are working diligently with our local law enforcement partners on reports of mail theft in the Bronx," a spokesperson for the United States Postal Inspection Service said.
The USPS recommends clearing your mailbox completely every day and to not leave mail overnight, do not send cash through the mail and if you plan to be out of town, notify your local post office so they can securely hold your mail until you return.
In 2023, the USPS launched a nationwide campaign to crackdown on mail theft and protect the mail stream. That campaign included the installation of high-security blue collection boxes, which makes access to their contents more difficult for criminals.
"I'm keeping an eye on my bank accounts to make sure there are no charges I don't recognize I'm making sure I get my mail every day to make sure there is nothing left behind," said Ruby.
If you see mail theft in action, or believe your mail was stolen, the USPS encourages people to call the police and then call the Postal Inspector at 877-876-2455.
