The man accused of fatally shooting an off-duty NYPD officer during a Facebook Marketplace transaction in East New York two years ago is expected back in court Wednesday.
Randy Jones is facing a first-degree murder charge in the death of Officer Adeed Fayaz. Fayaz, a five-year NYPD veteran assigned to the 66th Precinct, is remembered as a devoted husband and father to two young sons.
The 26-year-old officer was killed in February 2023 while accompanying his brother-in-law to purchase a car in East New York.
Police say the deal turned violent and Fayaz was shot in the head. Jones was arrested hours later at a hotel.
In January, prosecutors presented DNA evidence they say could link Jones to the shooting.
News 12 reached out to Jones’ defense attorney for comment but has not heard back.
