It's Thursday and that means it's time for Main Street, Connecticut when we explore all kinds of places to visit across our area. And today we're visiting Norwalk. So let's head to news 12 Connecticut's Mark Sudal, who is at the Shane mcgrath memorial. Mark. Good morning, Becky. Yes, we're here at Cal Pasture Beach right near the Norwalk, uh, coast Guard station here, uh, at the Shay mcgrath Memorial and you can see old glory is flying high above the memorial here and can be seen from the Sound and from Shay Island, uh, out here on the Sound as well, Shane mcgrath Memorial honoring Daniel Shea and John mcgrath. Both their plaques are here. This memorial has been here since 1973 and the Norwalk Veterans Committee has done a great job to upkeep this and it wants to really raise awareness about this and make sure that you know, more kids know about this and what happened here as well. Jeff Dewitt. He is retired Air Force and the chairman of the Norwalk Veterans Committee. Thank you so much for being with us this morning. You're welcome. You've done a lot to, to make this happen over the years. Um What message do you want to get out to people? Every town has plaques and monuments to their war dead. And I think Newark does a great job of doing that. And the thing about this memorial is on the side that you don't see from the street is these names. 100 and 73 from World War 29 from Korean War and 18 from the Vietnam War. And if you don't know it's back here, you're never gonna come back and, and recognize them and honor them. And so our hope is that, uh, that people do come back here and read the names and learn about them. We actually had a teacher in a local middle school that gave uh, his students an assignment to come back and find names on the plaques. There are brothers on these plaques, there's uncles and nephews on these plaques and each name has a story. And what's important is that, that story is known because there are still family members of some of these folks that are still living in Norwalk. So, yeah, and we should mention too, obviously that veterans park nearby over here has the Purple Heart Memorial as well. Correct? Yeah, that was, uh dedicated in 2022. And, uh, so we have found 240 combat wounded from Norwalk. And, uh, there's a website dedicated, uh to them. And, uh, on August 7th, we're gonna ha that's National Purple Heart Day. We're gonna lay a wreath at the monument. We do that every year. And then another event that's coming up that I should mention is September 20th is Powmi a recognition day in the country and we're gonna do an event for that as well. Uh Norwalk is still missing 45 people most at sea. Uh, but some not, wow. I mean, there's so many great stories here and it's such a historical thing, I think for people who know about, you said you had a lot of schools that come here. It's Thursday. That means it's time for Main Street, Connecticut. When we explore all kinds of fun locations in towns and cities across our area today, we're in Norwalk. So let's go to news talk, Connecticut's Mark Sudal, who's standing by at the sunset grill. Mark. Hey, Becky. Yeah, we're near Calf pasture beach and we are at, down at the Sunset grill at the sunset group. Hey, if you've never been here, this is a great spot to be. We're just a short ways away from where we were in our last hour. And look, you got the tiki bar here. There's so much, uh, to see and, uh, really enjoy while you're here. Not just the food, which is amazing. By the way, you got all kinds of fresh seafood and stuff going on on the grill. You can get your seafood and you can get a little, um, you know, grilled chicken sandwich if you want to, plenty of spots here. Ok. If the weather is not great, you can hide out under the tent over here. Now, Vinnie, uh, who runs the place his grandfather started this, uh, years ago back in the, back in the nineties, like, not like it's that far back, 1994. But, uh, it is a family run business and they've done a great job with it here over the years and, you know, you have just a great view of the Norwalk Cove here. I mean, is this a great spot or what? Sometimes you'll see the Cops Island, uh, Oyster guys coming up, uh, going out into the sound. You got these beautiful boats here. I mean, millions of dollars just sitting right here in the old harbor. Now. Um, I do wanna, before I wrap up here, uh, what the heck I got this on the chair. Uh I do want to, uh, partake in a little seafood while I'm here. Of course. What's better than what's better than that? Look at this lobster roll. The boss got this today. Thank you so much. And uh mm mm oh, Becky. Come on. Let's get some food. Hey, Mark, go. I know you can't see me but I have my own lobster roll that the seafood angel dropped off in the studio and we're eating together. I almost choked. I'm not kidding you. And we heard you singing Sunset Grill grill before on top of the segment. On our way out, we're gonna play a little of the way Don Henley sings the song. Now, you're gonna say down to the Yeah, and watch the world. All right. So cheers to summer. You get that money back.

Let's go to news 12, Connecticut's Mark Zall, who is at Norwalk, Co Marina, mini golf. All right. How's your game going? Mark? Well, you know, Becky, we played 18 already and, uh, Mark Sagos, my photographer and I almost set a course record which I think is, what, 36 36 18 holes part two. Anyway, Tom Dunlop is joining me here. Now, you've been here for, what, 48 summers, 48 summers. The stories that you could tell. Right. Nobody believes them. Well, you got one good one for me. As I, uh, see off here. Oh, when Gene Wilder, come on, when Gene Wilder used to live in Westport, he and Gilda Radner would come here and play golf. Get out of here. They did. Uh, Mickey Dolan came with Amy when she was from the monkey. I mean, we've had a lot of people come, a lot of people come back now, uh, as he's hitting here just to let you know that Tom is also a, a magician. Uh, so I was hoping he would make the ball disappear but I guess he didn't. Oh, well, he says he plays pinball more than anything right back when we had the arcade, the pinball. That was my game. Um, I think you're up. Uh, so this place goes back to, what, 1958 I guess, in 1958 this course, I think was 1998 ni uh 2000 and I mean, we don't have the windmills and stuff, but the course itself is the challenge. That's true. Yeah, you can, you can move your ball. That's fine. So Tony says so in the rules. So in the ok, I just wanna make sure we're being fair about it here. Oh God, you're doing as well as I know. Trust me in the, in the warm up. I actually did a lot better. I have proof from, from the guy behind the camera there. So, uh mm, I do wanna get this one more hole in before we run out of time here though. Uh Oh, that was a nice shot. Oh, for a pinball guy? That's pretty good. Pretty good stuff. And you have, I imagine in the summertime here this place must be packed. Oh, yeah. Uh A lot of customers all depends on the heat though. If it's too hot and humid. Well, that's it. It's slow during the day. But after the dinner crowd we pack them in. Are you kidding me? Didn't come on. Yeah, the boss is not going to believe me. All right. Well, we're both in the same boat, I guess. Um, so you get, uh, I mean, God, you get a lot of kids, right? But some little kids too who probably enjoy this in the mornings. Grandparents come with their kids and then the nannies come with their kids. You gotta be kidding me. I mean, so much better in practice. So much better practice. Oh, look at this guy, I'm getting better with, you're getting better with, with every hole, aren't you? All right, at this point, I'm just gonna see if I can sync this one right. Here we go.
