Well it's Friday, which means it's time for Main Street, Connecticut, a chance to showcase our local towns and cities and all that they have to offer. This week we're in New Canaan. Let's get to News Connecticut's Mark Sudall, who begins at the Powerhouse Performing Arts Center inside Waveny Park. Mark. Becky, I'm covered in snow. It is cold and I'm sitting on an iceberg here. This is all set back in the early 1900s during the Antarctica exploration, and it's all part of the opening act tonight which is going to be Terra Nova here at uh the powerhouse, and Patricia Pagani is joining me. You've been, uh, here with the organization for quite a while. You've had uh some amazing people come through here. Tell us about, uh, tonight's show. Hi Mark, good morning to everybody. So Terra Nova is premiering tonight here at the Powerhouse Theater shows at 7:30. We have 9 performances over the next 3 weekends. This particular show is about the expedition in 1910, 1911 over the summer, or our winter their summer in the Antarctic of Captain Scott and his crew who raced the Norwegians to the South Pole. Now who are these two cuties? So we have, I have joining us here Miles and Izzy Langrec. They're residents here in New Canaan. They're also actors who've been on this stage a few times already in their career, their young career. Now the great Christopher Lloyd, I remember from uh Taxi when I was a kid, you know, Back to the Future, uh, grew up here, probably did a lot of, uh, performances, uh, here in New Canaan, uh, got such history at this powerhouse, right? We do. The Powerhouse Theater is in Wanny Park. It and Christopher Lloyd, as he mentioned, he grew up in the mansion here at. Wabony and the powerhouse was the original powerhouse to the big house and in 1983, the town players of New Keenan converted the theater or converted the powerhouse into this theater. And the organization as a community theater has actually been in place since 1946, so we have quite a legacy here in town. We are community actors that perform at the theater. Occasionally we'll have professionals, but we've got folks that have been acting for many years. That's just their avocation instead of their vocation. And about the minute we have left, what's the, what's the future hold? OK, well, we do 6 productions here a year. Our next show is the importance of Being Earnest in April, and then the Shawshank Redemption is opening in June. And then in general as a community theater we have plans to expand the physical theater or actually our lobby to make it more accessible and enjoyable for everyone and then we're also planning to take a storage building and turn it into a theater arts education center so we can do multi-generational education here, but we really. Take to heart, putting a capital C in community theater, so we do a lot of outreach with the seniors in town, with students, and with the community in general serving all of Fairfield County, although we have folks coming from New Hampshire and Maine for this show and even Pennsylvania, so it's we're busy.
