A Long Island man is turning a late-night idea into a cool, fun business. And now, his
Italian ices are being shipped nationwide. Andrew Miscioscia started
Andy's Italian Ices in 2009, around the time he decided to enter the food truck industry.
Andrew grew up in his family's East Norwich grocery store. When his dad passed away, Andrew took it over, and that's when he discovered a new passion. For him, dessert came first! "I saw ice cream, Italian ices, and gelato make everyone happy," said Andrew.
Andrew's background helped him craft the perfect recipe. And he says it was trial and error. "Back then, it was me and a machine in my friend's deli." Andrew started small. He was working out of local commercial kitchens and a friend's deli freezer.
Andrew focuses on wholesale. He makes all his ices out of his Huntington Station kitchen. While he's not there, he's driving around Long Island in his food truck. He has a sweet following nationwide. "I have customers in California, Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, Texas," said Andrew.
This is Andrew’s full-time job. "I love Long Island. This is where I was born and raised, so this is where I stay," said Andrew.
