New Jerseyans know how to make a fashion statement, and many turn to a Hudson County shop for high-quality custom clothing.
NYC Factory Inc. in North Bergen creates apparel ranging from streetwear to detailed custom pieces, all under one roof.
Inside the shop, old-school sewing machines sit next to cutting-edge technology. About 60 employees work together on embroidery, printing, sewing and design.
Much of the clothing is both conceptualized and produced in-house. The business is family-run by a father and son and operates as a one-stop shop.
“We started by doing samples for brands like Coach, Noah, Calvin Klein, many designer brands based in New York,” said Gianfranco Quezada, the shop’s print manager. “I just started looking at the variation, how cool it was and how trendy.”
The company now works with major brands and celebrity clients, producing thousands of clothing items each month. The shop also welcomes walk-in customers with their own fashion concepts or team apparel needs.
Streetwear is a major focus, with graphic T-shirts among the most popular items.
The process begins with building a custom design, preparing the shirt, and printing it using a large format printer. The final steps include steaming and finishing the garment.
Quezada says speed is part of the appeal. “Just come in with your design,” Quezada said. “All you have to say is I want a T-shirt with this color. Thirty minutes, very fast, very easy.”
He says staying creative keeps the work exciting.
“I’m having fun literally designing and creating, following the trends,” Quezada said. “This world of fashion is always changing, and we’re always learning.”
