What started as a frustrating problem for two cleaning professionals has grown into a Connecticut-made solution that's helping families clean their homes with fewer harsh chemicals.
When Angelo Zimmerman and Claudia Zimmerman launched their cleaning business in New York City in 2015, they quickly discovered a gap in the market. Natural cleaners often didn't have the strength to tackle tough messes, while traditional products got the job done but came with ingredients they weren't comfortable using.
For Angelo, the issue was especially personal. Living with asthma, years of exposure to cleaning chemicals made finding a safer alternative more than just a business challenge. It became a mission. Determined to create a better option, the couple partnered with chemists to develop cleaning products that combine powerful performance with safer ingredients.
Today, their Fairfield-based company, Everneat, offers a full line of products including surface cleaners, laundry detergents, dish soaps and body-care items.
What makes the products different? Everneat uses biotechnology, including probiotics and enzymes, to break down grease, dirt and stains. The technology has been used in hospitals in Europe and is now being brought into homes across the region.
The company's product line features scents like Purify, Lift and Bloom, along with fragrance-free options. Customers can find products for nearly every room in the house, from kitchen counters to laundry rooms.
Everneat is also working to reduce household waste. Its refillable system allows customers to keep their bottles and simply order concentrated refills, mixing them with water at home.
Today, Everneat's cleaning crews use the products exclusively, and the company is sharing the solution it created with customers throughout the tri-state area.
What began as an everyday challenge for this husband and wife team has become a growing Connecticut business focused on making homes cleaner, healthier and more sustainable.
Everneat offers a product subscription and is available on Amazon and locally at the Fairfield Farmer's Market.
