The longtime owner of the popular Wantagh Inn has passed away.
Michael Dunphy, of Wantagh, has died at the age of 84.
Dunphy was born in County Cork, Ireland, before moving to New York in 1969.
He met his wife of 52 years, Geraldine, and in 1981, the two purchased an old butcher shop across from the Wantagh LIRR station, and that’s how the Wantagh Inn was born.
Mike is survived by his wife, four children and ten grandchildren.
Wake services are being held at Charles J. O'Shea Funeral Home in Wantagh on Monday.
The restaurant will be closed Tuesday for the funeral at St. Frances de Chantal R.C. Church.
