Several donation drives have taken place on Long Island for people impacted by hurricanes Helene and Milton.
The Halesite Fire Department in Huntington has been collecting emergency supplies including diapers, paper towels and canned goods.
Organizers says the community has been doing a great job of answering the call for help. The collection drive ended Wednesday night, and the items will be flown and driven down to Florida.
Another nonprofit called "Jibaritos with Troops" are also coordinating a collection effort for people in Florida. They will be collecting supplies at their location at 11 Madison Ave. in Bay Shore until Tuesday Oct. 15.
Students at Northport High School's "Paws for a Cause" pet club have also been busy.
So far, they've collected $1,000 in donations and more than $600 worth of pet supplies and food. People can donate by bringing pet supplies and personal hygiene products (for humans) to Northport High School during school hours.
A tractor-trailer will be picking up the supplies at the high school at 8 a.m. on Oct. 12 and will head to North Carolina.
