Junior firefighters from Merrick and Mineola got a close-up look at how police helicopters respond to help during emergency situations.

The Nassau County police department landed a helicopter on a field near the Four Towns Fireman's Training Center in Merrick as part of a training exercise.

The student learned how the helicopter supports first responders and how crews work around the aircraft.

Organizers of the exercise say that the training is also about building friendship and teamwork between junior firefighters from different departments.
