Lodi police are asking for the public’s help identifying a driver involved in a hit-and-run that left a man seriously injured.
The crash happened just after 2 a.m. on Sept. 6 on Passaic Avenue.
Surveillance video shows the man walking near his parked car when an SUV strikes him from behind.
Police say the woman driving the SUV, which they believe was a Kia Sportage, got out and briefly spoke with the victim before getting back into the vehicle and driving away.
The victim was able to get back on his feet and walk home. Police say he was later taken to the hospital with serious injuries but was released that same day.
Investigators say surveillance video shows the SUV leaving the area at a high rate of speed and making a left turn onto First Street.
Police say they do not have a positive license plate number and have not been able to identify the SUV or the driver.
Video also shows another driver behind the SUV stopping after the crash. Police say another driver was traveling in the opposite direction when the victim was on the ground.
Investigators say they have exhausted their leads and are now asking anyone with information about the vehicle, driver or crash to come forward.
Police say tips can be provided anonymously.
The driver could face charges for leaving the scene of an accident. Additional criminal charges could be considered as the investigation continues.
