A new exhibit at the Lockwood-Mathews Mansion Museum is highlighting the family’s connections to the American Revolution and the founding of the United States.
“Revolutionary Roots: Generations of Change” examines the links between the Lockwood and Mathews families and key figures involved in the nation’s fight for independence. Museum officials say recent research uncovered ancestral ties to Revolutionary War participants, including statesman Roger Sherman, one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence.
The exhibit features period clothing, historical artifacts, and educational panels that trace the families’ connections to the Revolutionary era and the nation’s early history.
Museum staff say the exhibit offers visitors an opportunity to better understand the people and events that helped shape the country while bringing history to life through interactive storytelling and historical displays.
“Revolutionary Roots: Generations of Change” is on display at the Lockwood-Mathews Mansion Museum through Oct. 3.
