The snow can be fun, but it can also be dangerous.
While kids are out having fun, crews are continuing to work hard to keep the roadways clear.
However, due to the amount of accumulated snow and frigid temperatures, that snow isn't going anywhere anytime soon.
Plows have been creating snowbanks as they try to clear some of the snow off roadways and parking lots.
Officials say that while they look harmless, these can actually be very dangerous for children.
"The snow plow coming though, that can throw up chunks of ice [and] big pieces of snow," said Town of Carmel Supervisor Michael Cazzari, "If the kids were tunneling or playing in the snow bank, they could be hit with a piece of ice or there is a danger of suffocation if they're, you know, in a tunnel."
According to officials, plow truck drivers may not be able to see children as they continue to plow snow or cut back on snowbanks for visibility.
This is something the City of Yonkers monitors very closely.
"It's an attractive nuisance. Kids want to sleigh ride down any snow bank they see and it could end up getting severely hurt if they're using those snow banks to go off onto the street," said Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano.
It's important to make sure that your kids are dressed in bright colors as they're playing outside so they're easier to spot.
