Hope Community Services in New Rochelle has been helping those in need for more than 40 years.
Staff at the non-profit organization say between the government shutdown and federal cutbacks more people need help.
According to Executive Director Sylvia Hamer, 104 new families have joined their food pantry since early September. Hamer says close to 35 hundred families now rely on HOPE for food and services.
And with the Thanksgiving holiday quickly approaching, the need continues to grow. It's been a rough road since cutbacks have also affected food partners like Feeding Westchester, as a result the need for donations and volunteers have increased.
In addition to running 2 food pantries, one of them Kosher- the biggest in Westchester County, the organization also offers dozens of services from after school programs to immunizations.
