In addition to snow and wind, coastal flood warnings and potential damage are also part of this winter storm. Jeremy Hopwood is on the Long Island Sound in Mamaroneck with all the details for us, Jeremy. We're here in Mamaroneck at the Mamaroneck Yacht Club where members here are definitely expressing concern about potential flooding damage. Now as I step away and you look out onto Long Island Sound and you see this jetty here, you can see that right now it is basically low tide. High tide is going to be coming as this storm picks up, but we know there is a coastal flood warning for southern Westchester starting at midnight tonight until 5 a.m. Monday. If you get a wind, you got trouble. This is an island and that stone wall, whoever put it in protected the whole area. Hopefully it'll go past us. Maybe the wind will push it out to the sea. So this flood warning is a real concern. We have sea levels that could potentially be 2.5 ft higher than average. There is a coastal flood warning for southern Westchester starting at midnight tonight into 5:00 a.m. Monday. So a real concern for residents here in Mamaroneck. One of the biggest concerns with those strong winds is the power outages. Joining us right now this afternoon is Vito Signorelli from Orange and Rockley Utilities to speak about how they're preparing for the worst of it, Vito. Good morning. How are you? Hey, hey. So we know that it's going to be bad between the snow, the wind. What you guys are obviously prepared to respond to calls, right? Yes, absolutely. And in addition to the preparations that we're making for this storm, these are preparations that we make year-round for extreme weather events that unfortunately we're seeing become way too common in New York and not just in the winter, but in the summer as well. So we're preparing year-round through trainings and other. Opportunities to make sure that our system is ready to respond to potential outages that these extreme weather events, you know, may cause. You know, we invest continuously in ensuring that our system becomes more resilient and reliable in the face of these weather events, so we are prepared to handle any outages that come our way. I know you probably have crews on standby. Is there anything that you want to advise customers to be aware of heading into the storm? Yes, well, it's no secret at this point that the worst of it is supposed to be happening overnight. So our customers should be charging their appliances, charging their cell phones, making sure they have flashlights and extra batteries ready to go. If an outage does occur, uh, we encourage customers to reach out to us right away. Don't assume that we know our crews will be. Out, but we will respond to outages in a safely and timely manner as they come.
