And breaking right now on News 12, a car and train have collided in Suffolk, leaving behind a trail of debris and fire. This is all developing right now. We have a reporter on the scene near the Pine Lawn Station. We want to get right out to John Dowing with the latest. John, very active scene behind you there. Joe, you said it right there. This is a very active scene. A lot of things are developing as we speak right over my shoulder here. It's the front of the LIRR of the LIRR train that hit that vehicle earlier this evening East in here in East Farmingdale. You see the large police response and the large amount of first responders there at the front of the vehicle of the LIRR train. There was still smoke pouring out of the LIRR train in the very front car. When we first arrived here on scene, now again this has been a large police response. We're going to pan over here to the left here where you can see just the sheer amount of first responders here on scene. We've seen MTA police. We've seen Suffolk police. There's fire trucks here, EMS here as well. We are still working to learn if anyone has been injured right now. We're still waiting to learn more of those details, but we're also going to go this way here where you can see you. See, police are also at other parts of the train because this train here is stopped. Service is suspended on the Rononoma branch between Hicksville and Rononoma because of this accident that happened earlier, but you see right here there are first responders and police vehicles there that have been at this one section of the train here that stopped on the tracks. We're seeing them shining flashlights. They've been looking under the train right there as well. Again, excuse me. Again, this has been a very, very active scene since this first happened earlier this afternoon, earlier this evening I should say we're going to show you some other video of just shows the sheer amount of damage that happened because of this. There were parts of the car that were scattered along the tracks as well as well as at the train crossing in Pine Lawn where this happened earlier this evening. Again, this was around the Pine Lawn LIRR train station. The LIRR train station, there was just sheer a large amount of debris that was scattered when the train struck that vehicle. I spoke with a man who said he was waiting at that light to cross the train tracks, and he just, when he says he saw the train and the vehicle collide and he described it as a ball of fire. Take a listen to what he told us over the phone earlier this evening. I heard the wildest concussion of an explosion. And uh yeah I looked up to see what it was and you could just see the melee of the train hitting the car and the thing exploded into a fireball. Again, just a shock to a lot of the people here who were at that train crossing waiting waiting to cross the tracks and just seeing that ball of fire engulf the front of the train and that vehicle, leaving all of that trail of destruction in its path. Again, this is a very active scene right now. We're seeing lights going up right now here outside of where the train is stopped here on the tracks again, just we're seeing more and more police and first responders arriving here. On scene setting up a larger perimeter as well as they're still working at the front of the LIRR train that stopped here again, there was still a little bit of smoke that's coming out of the very front of the train car here again, we are going to be working to learn more details about exactly what happened and to learn if anyone was injured as a result of this crash. It appears passengers have now been taken off that train. We have a reporter on the scene near the Pine Lawn station. We want to get right out to John Dowing with the latest. John, still a lot going on out there. And more activity right now, Joe, right here you are seeing passengers being taken off of the LIRR train and being put on a bus right here. Buses are going to start picking up some of those passengers who were stuck for almost 2 hours on that train after it struck a vehicle near the Pine Lawn LIRR station. You see right now on screen more passengers walking up to the school bus here that is picking them up here and it's going to be transporting the passengers after being stuck on the. Again, the train struck that vehicle near the Pine Lawn LIRR station around 8:24 this evening, and those I spoke to people who were nearby say they saw a fireball explode when the train hit the vehicle. Now the train has been stopped here behind me where you see the large police presence and first responders still here. difficult to see the front of the train right now, but when we got on scene earlier, the front of the train was smoking. Right now you see first responders. Here you see firefighters, MTA police, EMS, a large police response, and that police response continues to grow the longer that we are out here on scene again though, that latest development, all of these passengers now are being escorted off the train after being stuck on that train for almost 2 hours. We are seeing more activity from MTA as well out here as they're trying to escort people off of the trains. We saw firefighters. They're continuing to get people off the train as well. Again, it is a very active scene right now. We also have video from earlier in the evening where we saw just the sheer amount of debris and devastation that was caused when that train struck that vehicle. Again, people I spoke to said they saw a fireball erupt when the train hit the vehicle. Again, there are bits. And pieces of the car that it struck scattered along the train tracks in the nearby area and I spoke with a man who was stopped near the train tracks at the Pine Lawn LIRR station when the train hit the vehicle again describing it as a fireball, like something you would see out of a movie. Take a listen to what he told us. I heard the wildest concussion of an explosion. And uh yeah I looked up to see what it was and you could just see the melee of the train hitting the car and the thing exploded into a fireball. As you can imagine, as you can imagine, service is suspended on the Rononoma branch between Hicksville and Ron Cooma as first responders and MTA police and as officials work to continue to clear the scene and get more details and evidence from the scene here. We're still working to learn exactly what happened and to learn if anyone was injured as a result of this, but right now we are seeing those. Passengers get off of the LIRR train after being stuck on it for almost 2 hours after that accident earlier this evening. We'll continue to update you as we learn more here, but again, a lot happening here in East Farmingdale after that train collided with that vehicle.
