The Lighthouse Repertory Theatre Company's production of "Into The Woods" premiered in Freeport Friday evening, and does more than just entertain a crowd.
The company partnered with the Long Island Coalition for the Homeless to provide support to the organization.
Cathy Keesee, of Mineola, came to see her son who is an actor in the show.
“I love to be entertained and they always do such a fabulous job,” she said.
Jackie Rorke, who plays the baker's wife in the show, says this musical is a unique show for those who haven’t heard of the Stephen Sondheim classic.
"Act I feels very different than Act II,” she said. “We take a couple sharp left turns for the better and for the worse."
Andrew J. Koehler, who plays the baker in the show, says this production does more than entertain the crowd.
"The best art is when people come together for a greater purpose," he said.
Tony Chiofalo, the Lighthouse Repertory Theatre Company co-founder, says this show and every other they put on is meant to make an impact on charities and nonprofits doing good in the community.
"What can we do to leverage theater to make an impact outside of the building that we're doing the theater in,” he said.
Theatergoers are asked to bring canned goods to donate to the organization and to make a donation to help provide food, clothing and other essentials for the unhoused on the island.
LI Coalition for the Homeless Executive Director Greta Guarton says a partnership like this makes all the difference in the world to them.
"It's groups like this that make such a difference in our lives and help us be able to do such wonderful things for others,” she said.
“It definitely adds that extra layer of something special,” said Keesee.
The production in Freeport is running at the Twin Oaks Center.
