This year, the ball drop in Times Square is extra special for a Long Island company.
American Metal Spinning, a Holbrook-based businesses, got the call in July to make the aluminum outer shell for the famed ball.
This is the first time the ball is actually round because of the spinning. Keith Morse — third generation owner of the business — and employee brothers Marco and Pedro made around 120 shallow domes.
Morse says the work is akin to pottery and requires meticulous precision.
“This is hand craftsmanship at its finest,” he said.
American Metal Spinning does everything from aircraft parts to high-end lighting to artistic items.
