An exchange on X has connected Gov. Mikie Sherrill and billionaire entrepreneur Mark Cuban over the state health benefits cost crisis in New Jersey.
Cuban posted on the social media platform that he would "volunteer to be on the committee that cuts your health benefits cost," saying the state needs someone who can remain objective and stand up to large health care conglomerates.
Sherrill responded by thanking Cuban for the offer and his innovative work as ideas are being brought to the table.
"No more kicking the can down the road in New Jersey. I want accountability and results," Sherrill wrote. "We'd love to have you on Team Jersey as we tackle this challenge. Let's talk - we'll reach out today!"
Cuban, best known as a former "Shark Tank" star and minority owner of the Dallas Mavericks, is also the owner of Cost Plus Drugs. On its website, the company says many Americans are paying exorbitant prices for prescription medications and argues that no one should suffer because they cannot afford basic medicines.
The exchange drew praise from across the aisle.
State Sen. Budget Officer Declan O'Scanlon responded online, writing, "Well done, Governor. All hands on deck."
Assemblywoman Vicky Flynn also welcomed the idea, telling Cuban to "pull up a chair."
Flynn praised Cuban saying he has spent years challenging health care and prescription drug costs.
