New Jersey lawmakers are trying to come up with a plan to make sure the state’s water facilities are protected.

The efforts come after facilities in Cape May and Woodbine fell victim to cyberattacks. Hackers targeted dozens of water systems across the United States.

Rep. Josh Gottheimer announced two bills on Wednesday that would ramp up security at these facilities.

"This isn't some kid in the basement messing around in their boxer shorts. These are advisories we are facing. They know what they're doing. And with AI, it's become easier for them to do what they do,” the congressman said.

Officials still have not said who was behind the cyberattacks. New Jersey officials have said that the safety of the drinking water was not compromised.
