Monday marked two weeks since a deadly storm caused significant flooding across the Garden State, along with power outages that lasted for days.

A bill introduced last week wants to help New Jersey residents save on their utility bills by prohibiting public utility companies from charging customers during a service interruption.

The bill would also require electric companies to reduce fixed charges for the amount of time that a customer went without service and prohibit companies from charging customers for service to street lights that've gone out until repairs are completed.

New Jersey counties that have had significant power outages this year include Union, Monmouth, Sussex, Ocean and Middlesex.
