Ocean County Superior Court Judge Guy Ryan ordered the payment during a restitution hearing.
Adam Zalouk, 33, was ordered to cover the cost for damage he caused to Wortman’s Honda Accord in July 2025 when the two men were together in Point Pleasant. The judge is giving Zalouk, a Staten Island resident and Uber driver, 36 months to pay the bill.
During that incident in July, Wortman called police after Zalouk threatened him with a knife and carved the word slut into his car. Wortman told police he had rejected Zalouk's sexual advances.
On Monday, Wortman's mother was in the back of the courtroom gripping a missing person poster of her 22-year old son.
She has always believed that Zalouk knows more about her son's appearance than he's shared.
“He threatened to kill my son he rammed his car into my son’s car, carved the word slut into his car, so yeah, he should pay," said Johanna Reyes.
The incident involving the car was several months before Wortman's disappearance in November of last year.
Zalouk was also with Wortman on the night he disappeared. The two were together in the parking lot of a school in Jackson Township. Zalouk would tell police that Wortman walked off into the woods but he's never been found despite multiple searches.
Johanna Reyes says her son would’ve been graduating from Rutgers in May.
There is a $10,000 reward for information leading to the missing 22-year old.
