Businesses along Arthur Avenue in Belmont were busy ahead of this holiday weekend, as customers came from all over the Bronx and beyond.
There was a line out the door at Casa Della Mozzarella, as last-minute shoppers made their last-minute purchases.
Nickie Lisella said her family drove in from Allendale, New Jersey.
“We came for dinner, and we thought, ‘Well, while we’re here we’ll just get some mozzarella and some pastries,” Lisella said.
Tanya Celadon told News 12 she travelled two hours from Litchfield, Connecticut.
“Here you can get everything,” Celadon said. “It’s like that old, family tradition.”
The customers said they only waited about 15 minutes in line, but owner Carlo Carciotto said that line can wrap down the block.
“7:30 a.m. [the line] started,” Carciotto said. “People wait about two hours on line all afternoon and [Saturday] will be the same thing.”
Carciotto said his family’s business usually makes about 4,000 pounds of mozzarella a week, but ahead of the holiday, they’re making anywhere between 6,000 and 7,000 pounds.
“[Every year] we would get busy from Wednesday through Saturday or Sunday morning,” Carciotto said. “[This year] we were busy from Monday all the way throughout.”
Other Arthur Avenue businesses also had long lines ahead of the big Easter feast.
“It’s the best around,” Celadon said. “We got to get Italian food from the Bronx!”
“It’s good,” Lisella said. “The food is great! There’s no place like New York!”
