1 person killed in large Keyport house fire
One person was killed and a family pet was injured as crews battled a large fire that destroyed a Keyport home Tuesday morning. The fire broke out just after 6:30 a.m., and smoke could be seen from several blocks away.
The Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office confirmed one fatality and said the cause of the fire remains under investigation. Officials also said a dog was removed from the home and taken to a local veterinarian for emergency treatment. The dog's condition is unknown. Earlier this morning, Keyport officials posted a notice on Facebook asking residents to avoid the area of Green Grove Avenue and Maple Place until further notice “to allow emergency responders to safely do their job.” People were advised to use alternate routes to get around the neighborhood. There is no word yet on whether anyone else was injured. This is a developing story. Check back for updates as they become available.
