Police: 22-year-old man on electric scooter killed in crash on Route 1 in Edison

Police say a male resident of Edison was on an electric scooter crossing Route 1 south when he was struck by a black SUV.

A 22-year-old man was killed in Edison this morning on Route 1 south and Plainfield Avenue, Deputy Chief Robert Dudash confirmed to News 12 New Jersey.
Dudash says the man, a resident of Edison, was on an electric scooter crossing Route 1 south when he was struck by a black SUV.
There’s no word on the condition of the driver of the SUV, a 61-year-old male resident of Rahway.
According to Dudash, an investigation of the accident showed the scooter was crossing against the green light. He says there is currently no wrongdoing from the SUV driver.
Video shows crocs in the middle of the crosswalk as investigators placed each shoe in a brown bag. The intersection of Route 1 southbound and Plainfield Avenue was blocked off by cones and police cars.
The crash was reported at 1:46 a.m. All southbound lanes on Route 1 and Plainfield Avenue in Edison reopened at 4:49 a.m.
According to state police, this is the seventh fatal accident in Middlesex County on Route 1 this year. The most recent in South Brunswick involved a motorcycle on April 23, according to police. Also in South Brunswick, a fiery crash killed a driver and two passengers on their way to a Central Jersey adult day care center on April 12.
