Gov. Ned Lamont said he will veto $43 million that lawmakers passed last week.
The money was set to fund special education, Planned Parenthood, and Bridgeport Pride.
Lamont supports the initiatives but said the additional spending would break the state's spending cap.
"Overspending was a bipartisan problem going back 10 years. It's a bipartisan problem in Washington, D.C. And I'm 71 years old. I don't have to compromise on my principles," Lamont stated.
Lawmakers are likely to override the veto on Wednesday, at least for the $40 million earmarked for special education.
