Community members and local officials in Kingsbridge gathered Sunday to mark one year since the tragic death of 1-year-old Nicholas Dominici.

Dominici died after authorities say he was exposed to fentanyl at the Davino Nino Daycare Center on Sept. 15, 2023.

Police raided the day care after they said multiple young children were found unconscious.

According to officials, they discovered one kilogram of fentanyl and drug packaging equipment, with traces of opioids on play mats where children played and slept.

Council Member Pierina Sanchez's office organized a street co-naming for Dominici on Sunday.

The intersection of Kingsbridge Road and Kingsbridge Terrace is now co-named as "Nicholas Otoniel Feliz Dominici Way."

The Dominici family says they are turning their pain into purpose by uniting local leaders to pass tighter legislation for daycare safety.

"We have introduced five pieces of legislation educating parents on their rights at the daycare. You can go in at anytime, whenever you want, to see how your child is doing," Sanchez said.

Overcome with emotion, Nicholas' father, Otoniel Dominici, spoke from a place of pain.

"Around this time, I held my son in my arms for the last time. It’s hard for me, as a man, as a father, to be standing here, but for the desire to honor my son is why I’m here," he said.
