A Kearny man accused in a fatal arrow attack and an ensuing standoff with police, is facing murder and arson charges.
Oscar Feijoo, 44, is being charged with murder, aggravated arson and weapons offenses in connection with the bizarre Dec. 20 incident, according to Hudson County Prosecutor Wayne Mello.
On Saturday at about 6:45 p.m., police responded to the area of Kearny Avenue and Johnston Avenue after receiving reports that a man was struck by an arrow. The victim, identified as 45-year-old Pablo Criollo, of Harrison, was transported to University Hospital in Newark where he died a short time later.
Feijoo was identified as a person of interest, the prosecutor said. Police officers, along with members of the Hudson County regional SWAT Team, attempted to make contact with Feijoo, who barricaded himself inside the home. At about 5 a.m. on Sunday morning, Feijoo set multiple fires inside the house.
The prosecutor said Feijoo remained barricaded in the residence for several hours after crews responded and extinguished the fires. The suspect finally exited the home around 1 p.m. on Sunday armed with knives. He was taken into custody after a brief standoff outside the residence.
Prosecutors say Feijoo is expected to face more charges.
