Cybersecurity experts are warning about a new threat from ordinary-looking charging cables in New York City this morning.

A Kane in Your Corner investigation finds that some cables contain a hidden chip that turns them into hacking tools. The device is called an O.MG cable.

Cybersecurity expert Scott Schober says once connected the cable can inject malware log keystrokes or take over a computer or mobile phone.

Schober notes there is no easy visual way to tell a bad cable from a good one.

Unlike malicious USB drives these cables cost over $100 each so hackers are not likely to leave them randomly for people to find.

Schober advises never using a cable you did not buy or whose history is unknown.

He recommends initialing personal cables to confirm they belong to you.
