A federal judge blocked Connecticut's ban on convertible pistol sales hours before it was set to take effect on Wednesday.

Judge Kari Dooley issued a preliminary injunction and said Glock and other plaintiffs “are likely to succeed on the merits of their second amendment challenge.”

If the ban went into effect, gun stores would no longer be able to sell “convertible pistols,” which are handguns that can be easily converted into an automatic weapon using a small part, known as a “Glock switch.”

Pistols outfitted with the device can fire up to 1,000 rounds per minute.
