Many teenagers around New Jersey join their local fire and EMS squads as volunteers.
Bob Higgins did just that in Princeton in the 1940s. Now 97 years old, Higgins was just honored for 76 years of service to the Princeton Fire Department.
Higgins first volunteered when he was 16 years old in 1943. He missed a couple of years while off fighting in World War II. But he came home and kept going on calls.
Higgins is a lifelong Princeton resident and currently lives at the Brandywine Senior Living Community.
