Scaffolding is up along Old York Road in Raritan for a very good reason.
The famed John Basilone statue is being professionally cleaned and preserved.
The statue honors one of New Jersey's great war heroes - World War II Marine Corps legend Sgt. John Basilone.
It has stood in the park named after him since 1948. This is the first time it's ever been cleaned.
The statue needs to look good for the annual Basilone Foundation 5K, which is coming up in Raritan on Sept. 19.
