During snowstorms, firefighters across the U.S. are outside helping maintain various safety precautions.

One of those tasks is to clear snow from hydrants.

The Westhampton Fire Department started a hydrant digging contest. They asked residents to post their kids helping their community stay safe.

The winners of the competition were Chase and Ryan, who cleaned multiple hydrants by their house.

They were given $50 each for their win.
