        January is Firefighter Cancer Awareness Month, highlighting the significant threat cancer poses to firefighters.
        Donald Farrell, First Vice President of the Firefighters Association of the State of New York, joined News 12 this morning to discuss how the CDC identifies cancer as a leading cause of death among firefighters, who can be exposed to hundreds of different chemicals while fighting fires, often inhaling or ingesting them, and how the IAFF noted that for 2023, 72% of line of duty deaths among its members were due to occupational cancer.
