Let's check conditions outside now. Our storm coverage continues in Bridgeport. News Twelve's Frank Recchia is there this evening, Frank. Kurt, we're on Thompson Street right here on the western edge of the hollow, and before the floodwaters receded here about 30 to 45 minutes ago, city officials say we had a full 3 ft of water surrounding Bright Giggles Learning Center, that's a daycare, but they tell us that the director was grateful for firefighters to get all of the kids to safety. As we go ahead and take a look at video, we can see that moment. Maria says it was a very emotional one for parents as their babies were. Carried through the floodwaters to be safely reunited with mom and dad. There is an unpleasant reality to the situation which we discovered while walking into the middle of the floodwaters here on Thompson Street. The smell of what is apparently raw sewage mixed with the overflow hit us like a brick wall. We also had flooding in other low lying parts of the city such as Seaview Avenue right at the edge of the East End. Mayor Joe Ganim thanking first responders for their rescue efforts today. Firefighters at the height of the flooding carried out young children from this daycare facility through this water to safety. I want to thank our fire department, our first responders and emergency services, and ask the residents as a way to thank them is to avoid a situation. If you see a flooding like this, do not drive into it. And if you don't need to be out, let them get out there. There may be wires down in some areas. I still don't have all the reports, but I want us to be out there and make sure the city's streets are safe. Good advice from Mayor Joe Gannon. He says luckily at this moment, as of this moment, there are no reports of injuries. We will have much more on this story coming up. Kurt, back to you. All right, Frank, thank you for that update.

The flooding began shortly before 2 p.m., quickly inundating Thompson Street and Seaview Avenue. Rising waters submerged vehicles and trapped residents temporarily, though nobody was hurt.
