Intense afternoon downpours Tuesday left parts of Bridgeport submerged in four feet of water, destroying property and triggering a dramatic daycare rescue.
The flooding began shortly before 2 p.m., quickly inundating Thompson Street and Seaview Avenue.
Rising waters submerged vehicles and trapped residents temporarily, though nobody was hurt.
Making matters worse, the floodwaters mixed with raw sewage from the nearby Island Brook waterway, creating an overwhelming stench and hazardous conditions for the neighborhood.
