Anthony “Tony” Herbert, the former public housing liaison at the New York City Mayor's Office under Eric Adams, has been charged with committing bribery, kickback and fraud offenses, according to an unsealed indictment released Tuesday.
In one alleged scheme outlined in the indictment, Herbert solicited thousands of dollars in cash payments in exchange for him to put pressure on city officials to award a security company with city contracts. Another alleges that he fraudulently induced city officials to approve payments to a funeral home director in exchange for kickbacks.
Herbert also allegedly submitted a fraudulent loan application under a baked goods company that he claimed to own that does not exist.
He was previously featured on News 12 in his campaign for public advocate and at numerous anti-gun violence events in the borough.
