There were multiple “ICE Out For Good” protests on Long Island Sunday in remembrance of Renee Good – a Minneapolis mother who was fatally shot by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent on Wednesday.
The Trump administration has defended the officer who shot Good in her car, saying he was protecting himself and fellow agents and that Good had “weaponized” her vehicle. Local officials, eyewitnesses and others have disputed that claim.
Ali Mirza helped organize a prayer vigil in Mineola.
"I think what we can agree on is that ICE has no place in our communities," he said. “…American citizens are being called terrorists just for speaking up for our rights…We cannot keep quiet. We have to stand up and make sure that we own this country."
Police were present at the vigil and the event was peaceful. Another vigil was held in Freeport.
