President Donald Trump’s tariff threats over Greenland are starting to strain relations with key NATO allies.
French President Emmanuel Macron criticized Trump’s approach and even warned of retaliation.
Trump argues that the United States needs Greenland to counter threats from China and Russia.
Republican Rep. Jeff Van Drew is offering his comments on the situation. He says that having a closer relationship with Greenland could “be beneficial for everyone involved.”
But the congressman said he does not support taking Greenland by force.
“I do not support military action to make Greenland part of the United States. I also do not believe that force is necessary, appropriate, or realistic. Anything involving Greenland's future must be cooperative,” Van Drew wrote in part.
Van Drew added that the United States must respect the people of Greenland and the U.S.’s relationship with Denmark.
