Daily highs this afternoon resembled late September rather than late August. Typically, we should be at 84 degrees for a high. Today was only 76 degrees. That is normal for Sept. 17 for perspective. Onshore winds bring that ocean influence to the forecast.
A slow-moving weather feature brings a chance for showers to the area tomorrow. The more consistent rains will be along and north of Interstate 78. The continued onshore wind will bring occasional showers to central and southern New Jersey throughout the day, it just won't be as consistent.
Hurricane Erin continues to make the Atlantic very angry. Large swells and a big push of water will make for extremely dangerous conditions at the beach. Please do not go in the ocean at all until Erin passes and the swells ease. Likely by late Friday, unfortunately.
Coastal flooding during high tides is going to be commonplace. Do not park your car in flood-prone areas. There is and has been a lot of talk about Hurricane Erin - rightfully so.
New Jersey is trying to get every last second of summer in before the new school year starts. There are still lots of people on vacation. Please listen to guards and beach officials. Go to the beach. Spend money at the beach. But please do not go into the ocean. It's not worth the risk to you or first responders going in after you if you get in trouble.
