In Monmouth County, people joined the community of Sea Girt and the New Jersey State Police for a plunge in the Atlantic.
Saturday morning, hundreds came out and braved the very cold temperatures for the 4th annual Polar Plunge.
The plunge support veterans and honors state trooper and national guardsman Juan Fajardo.
Whether people were diving in or supporting from the sand, the event supports the LIFT fund for Monmouth County veterans at Monmouth Habitat for Humanity.
"We just appreciate our veterans so much, what they give, this is really nothing to jump in the freezing ocean for a second compared to troops that are deployed overseas without their families for months and months risking their lives," said Mike D'Altrui, Event Coordinator and Sea Girt Recreation Commission. "We're happy to do it, and we'll do anything we can to help and support our veterans."
They were expecting over 600 people to participate, and they were able to raise $60,000.
