Firefighters in Union County worked through frigid temperatures Wednesday morning to bring a house fire under control.
The fire was located at a home on Woodruff Court off Livingston Avenue in New Providence.
A neighbor tells News 12 that she saw the smoke outside her window, and before she knew it, flames engulfed the house.
Fire officials say two people were inside the house at the time but were able to get out on their own and were not seriously harmed.
Firefighters worked through the cold conditions to bring the flames under control but also made sure they didn't spread.
“They contained the fire…Minimized any flashover damage to the neighbors on either side. I'm sure there's going to be some smoke damage…they did well,” says New Providence Police Chief Daniel Henn.
The fire destroyed the house. The cause was not immediately known.
