A home invasion and armed robbery in Fairfield prompted a shelter-in-place order Thursday, closing two schools and shutting down a stretch of Candlewood Road near Black Rock Turnpike, police say.
Officers responded to a home just before 2:30 a.m.
Police say they were able to find the victims, establish a perimeter and deploy police to the area.
Four suspects were taken into police custody.
Residents in the immediate area are no longer being asked to shelter in place. None of the victims or any officers were injured.
Police say at no point was there a specific threat directed toward any school or the public and believe the incident was an isolated situation.
However, McKinley Elementary School, ECC Warde, and Fairfield Warde High School were closed Thursday out of an abundance of caution and due to their proximity to the incident. All other schools operated on a normal schedule.
Chief Michael Paris said in a statement, "Let me be absolutely clear. If you come into the Town of Fairfield with the intent to commit a crime, you should fully expect that the Fairfield Police Department will find you, and we will arrest you. Our officers are highly trained, professional, and relentless when it comes to protecting this community. We will not tolerate individuals who believe they can victimize our residents or threaten the safety of our neighborhoods. I could not be prouder of the men and women of the Fairfield Police Department. Their response to this incident reflects the very best of policing. Every day, they represent the Town of Fairfield with integrity and dedication, and this incident is yet another example of their exceptional work."
