Some long Islanders that have really been decorating their homes and going all out for a good cause. And this morning we're meeting one Suffolk family that has three setups for three different causes. News Twelve's Jen Selig is live in West Islip now with more and just a great light show. Jen. Hey guys, good morning. It certainly, certainly is. It started with Santa Claus, his snowman and Wayne. And you started this family tradition right here on West Third Street at your home back in the eighties. And it's been going strong ever since. Yes, I proudly displayed these two pieces that I started with in 1987. And then, uh I had added a lot more over the years and I proudly passed it on to my son who carries on the tradition that pace strive and I've traveled to several states to pick up pieces for his show. Yeah. And I heard that you gave these pieces to your son and then you wanted them back. Yes, he wanted them back. He has plenty on his yard. But this is cool that you guys are able to do this and you do it all for charity. Yes, we take, accept donations for a great foundation. I'll make a wish and we take cash or, and check and there's a mailbox out front to put it in and not only does your son do this but your nephew too. And we're going to stop at his house next. Yes, he does a nice collection. He has a blow M collection too and he does a nice show and I help him out on the weekends and you start all this. What? Back in October? Yes, we start in October. I started in October and I start doing the house and get everything up and running and lots of lights here. But just like your son, you got solar. Yes, I have solo. So I don't have much of a bill, but I do have a little bit of a bill. Ok. That's ok. You do it all for the right reasons. You know, we know Rich Hoffman has been to your son's house. We got to get him to come to this house and your nephew's house as well. So, you heard that Richard? No, I did my wife looking pleasure to see you. You heard that back to you guys in the studio?

Month long. We've been showing you how long Islanders are decking the halls for a great cause this holiday season. And this morning we're talking with one family who has three different displays for three different great causes. And our Jen Selig, she's lucky enough to experience them all. She's in West Islip this morning with more on this amazing family and of course the causes that go along with it, Jen. Such a great assignment, Aaron, this man right here. This is Wayne in Pate. You are the guy that started this family tradition back in the late eighties, the home right behind us. This is the home that your kids grew up in and in continuing this family tradition of lighting up the houses. Yes. What's the best part like? What inspired you to start all this just to bring joy to the community for my kids. My son got into it and as you see the collection got bigger and uh just kept on going and then I got into the synchronized show here. Yeah. All you gotta do is tune into that radio station right there and people stopping by, you do this all for a great cause yes, make a wish is a good course. And that's what I would do. You can donate cash or a check or you can do uh right to make a wish. And it's pretty cool that your son wanted to pass on this tradition. His house looks gorgeous and your nephew as well. Yes, thank you. Um I start my show in October and um then I help my son on the weekends in October and I help my nephew in the, on the weekends too. But I do this during the week by myself with my son. And it's just, it's, it's more of a passion. Right. You're retired and, and you do this for fun. Yes, I do it for fun. This is what I do for fun way and it's all stored in his garage in your attic. It's crazy that you could hold all of this and there's two special pieces on that yard that we're gonna show you coming up and they were the start of all this. So, stay tuned for. That. Sounds good.

There's so many holiday decor here that you can't even get more from the stores and some, one of a kind pieces too. This guy right here Santa Claus, Santa Claus. He's a Mets fan and that's all because of DJ Russo and your family. Your cousin actually made that for you because your dad was a huge Mets fan, right? Yes. Yeah. He, um, he had made that for me. He painted it in memory of my father. Pretty cool news with Juan Soto. Now coming to the team. I mean, what can be better? We're very excited and you do this all for charity, your cousin, your uncle and yourself, but you do it for a specific charity. Yes. Yeah. I'm doing it for the Gary H Richard and Family Stroke and Brain An Center at Good Samaritan University Hospital and married my father who passed away and you and your dad used to always decorate the house. Maybe not to this extreme, but you're following the family tradition. Absolutely. Yes. Definitely not to this extreme. But we, we would definitely, that's where I got my love decorating and we would always go and look at houses around Long Island and you start setting up way in advance for all this. Absolutely. Yes. You know, the preparation really could start even in the summer just thinking about things you want to do. But then, you know, I'm, I'm starting like right after Thanksgiving for folks who want to come, we are on Saint Clair Street in Deer Park. And what time should people come on down? So they can come from, uh, Sunday through Thursday, from 5 to 10 and Friday and Saturday from, um, from 5 to 11. We got 300/300 blow molds on this property here at ST Clair Street in Deer Park with me. It's my new friend DJ Russo and this is amazing. You're inspired by the family to keep this holiday tradition going on. Absolutely. Yes. Yeah. It's a family tradition. It's me, my uncle and my cousin and, uh, we just, we just love doing, we love bringing Holly cheer to people on Long Island. That's awesome. So, you have a bunch of people that stop by and slow down and just check out the decor. Oh, absolutely. Yeah, they do a little more than that too. Last year we had a kid, the car stopped and he was dancing on top of his, uh, the car's roof. So we have all types of people. I your uncle and your cousin, they do it for, make a wish, which is incredibly amazing. But you do it for a different charity, a special cause to your heart. Yes. So I'm collecting for the Gary H Richard and Family Stroke and Brain Nazer Center at Good Samaritan University Hospital. That's in memory of my father who passed away and you and your dad always love to decorate for the holidays. So this is really for him, his legacy, his honor. Absolutely. On the side, it says the display is dedicated to his loving memory and it certainly, it certainly is. You know, we love decorating. The goal is to raise $1000 this year. Absolutely. Yep. We hope when we hit that, I love it. And you have a special decoration on this property for your dad. So we're going to show you guys that coming up. We've been looking forward to this story for a while. Oh Erin, this is so cool. I love how it's still dark out. You can see everything lit up, Anthony and Barra. You are the man behind all this decor all thanks to your dad starting this tradition. And just so people know we are on Pace Drive South in West Iceland. If people want to visit, what inspired you to continue this tradition. Honestly, it was all about family tradition. It started back in 1987 like you said, my dad started it um eight years ago, my wife and I got married and move in here. I said, you know what, let's take it on. Um And ever since then it's, it's just been getting bigger and bigger, Anthony. You have no more room on your yard. What are you gonna do? You need a bigger house. Um, honestly we bought this house thinking this was big enough the front yard. Um, but no, I mean, you know, I guess in this hobby you just make anything work. I mean, if you have an idea, it's never, no, it's always yes inspired because you guys light up the house for a good cause. Yeah. Yeah. No, that's exactly right. So we do it for make a wish. You know, there's nothing better than making a kid's wish come true. And you do this every year, every year and we start in October. And so it's your house, your dad's house and also extending the family. Now your cousin does it. Now, my cousin is in the Christmas crazy and he does a big display as well which you guys will see. Where do you store this? Just like honestly, a personal question, honestly, believe it or not. I get that question asked a lot. It's all on site. I have a 12 by 16 shed and it's all in the attic. So I just pack them like sardines and just make it work. So when folks want to come visit your house, when should they come? So the lights are on at five. They're on to nine Monday, Sunday through Thursday and then Friday and Saturday is 5 to 11. I love it. We're going to stick around here for a little bit longer, soak up all the lights here and send it back to you guys in the studio for now. Wow. What an incredible display three. I mean, that's like 30 clock Griswolds right there. It's unbelievable. And.

No, definitely not. Look inside of these two sheds, Anthony. You built this, this is incredible and you do it all for charity. Yeah, that's right. So every year we build these sheds, um We kind of use them as our animated display boxes. Um And every year I take them apart, I actually store them in a shed. Um because I like everything that looked like it was brand new. Um But yeah, this is, this is a big hit of our display and this is a family tradition. Your dad started this in the eighties. That's correct. Yep. He started in 1987 and when you got your own house with your wife and your kids, you wanted to continue this tradition. I don't know why. I think I'm crazy. But yes, that's exactly right. This is our eighth year here and it's pretty cool. I know a lot of people ask you, oh, my gosh. What's your electricity bill like? Yeah. So we actually don't have an electricity bill. This is all running on the energy that we generate from solar throughout the year. Incredible. There's so much to look at. I think every piece of the yard is filled with something and the most important part is where people can find the mailbox for make a wish. Yeah. So there's a mailbox right here and then there's also a mailbox at the front. Um We accept cash donations or checks. Um and there's also a link where you can donate electronically if you were never able to make it, but we do hope that you can make it at least once during the holiday season. And guys, you also get some um Christmas lists from the kids. Those are, those are fun surprises. Honestly, it's not, it's not only just donations. I occasionally get a um you know, a letter from a kid that right that you know, that writes what they want says they've been a good boy or girl and it just, it just makes me laugh honestly. So those are, those are always nice to say, keep it coming, keep it coming. Anthony. Thank you so much for having us. We're gonna make a pit stop to your dad's house now in West Iceland too.
