A family of five and several pets escaped safely after a devastating fire tore through a Bloomfield home early Thursday morning.
Firefighters responded around 5 a.m. to the home on Sandra Lane and found heavy fire showing from the first floor and extending into the second floor, according to Bloomfield Fire Chief Joseph Critchley.
"When companies arrived, we had heavy fire on the first and second floor," Critchley said. "The first floor was almost fully involved, extending to the second."
Firefighters quickly stretched hose lines, searched the home and knocked down the flames. Everyone inside made it out safely before crews arrived.
The fire caused extensive damage to both floors of the single-family home.
Chief Critchley said investigators are still working to determine where and how the fire started. He noted calm weather conditions helped prevent the flames from spreading to neighboring homes.
No injuries were reported among residents or firefighters.
