Heart disease prevention was the focus of a community event held Tuesday by the Norwalk Health Department.
The department hosted a Know Your Numbers screening at the main branch of the Norwalk Library.
People were able to check blood pressure, blood sugar, body mass index and waist circumference.
Staff reviewed results with participants and provided health education and resources.
Health officials said prevention is key when it comes to heart disease.
“The younger you start taking care of your health the better,” said Kelley Tomlinson, a health educator with the Norwalk Health Department. “Every opportunity you have to come and learn what your numbers are helps you start eating healthier foods, getting exercise and connecting with a health provider.”
Officials also encouraged residents to look at insurance options if they do not already have coverage.
The next screening will be held on the Feb. 17 at Opens Doors at Smilow Life Center.
