Heading to a Brooklyn beach today? Here's why you need to stay out of the water

Leave your jackets at home and grab that sun block because today is going to be a hot one in Brooklyn.
While this weather may have many of you heading to the beach, it's important to keep in mind that the water is still off limits. With public schools closed today, you can expect beaches and boardwalks to be packed, but that doesn't mean you can just hop in the water.
New York City beaches do not officially open until May 25, meaning the ocean is off limits and no lifeguards are on duty today.
If you do plan on coming out, keep your activities on the sand. Last summer, two teens drowned in Coney Island and at Jacob Riis Park after swimming while the water was closed. The temperatures are expected to hit in the 80s, so wear sunscreen and stay hydrated if you’re outside at all today.
