A Haverstraw firefighter was honored Tuesday night.

Officials say Randy Tavarez saved a man from choking inside Hole Shot Bagels last February.

He also rescued a man bound to a wheelchair during an apartment fire in Haverstraw last June.

Tavarez told News 12 that it was an honor to receive these awards.

"It feels extraordinary. I was able to touch the lives of many people and able to do what I do best, to help save lives," says Tavarez.

Multiple Haverstraw police officers and sergeants were also honored and received awards.
